The Music of Sister Sunshine

MUSIC MAKER:

© 1986 by Lydia Glider
Verse 1-1:
Glenn was a man with a tune in his heart and a smile in his eyes… Playin’ music, sweet music, all night long: Every time time his voice rang out He filled the air with life… he made you feel the meaning of a song, Yes, he made you feel the meaning of his song.
Verse 1-2
For many years he had struggled along with a purpose in life:
Playin’ gigs for peanuts, but havin’ fun…
Then one day he tried to sing, and a tear came to his eye.
Somehow he didn’t know what he had done…
Oh Lord I wish he knew what he had done!

Chorus:
Music Maker, playin’ in a one – man – band:
Did you give us too much of yourself?
Were the bright lights, and the faces, your vocation just and true?
Or did they become your private hell?
Verse 2:
In the dark hours of the next day’s early morn:
Just a bump was all it used to take…
But now you’re hiding in the bathroom just to smoke a rock, So the ecstasy you feel is always fake!
Bridge:
Why did you feel that you had to be hurt by your very own hand?
Courtin’ the lady’s too foolish by far!
She’ll take all your songs away and leave madness in their place:
Can you hear me, or is it much too late?
(repeat chorus, then verse 1-1)
