ONE LAST LUNCH WITH LENNY:
©
1998 by Lydia Glider-Shelley
Verse 1:
Food is a passion for some, they say…and I’m pretty sure
it’s true:
The best friend I ever had was that way,
‘
Though he had no teeth with which to chew!
When he was in jail they made him a bib:
Because he always got food on his shirt…
For the dessert he always had “dibs”
My buddy, pal, and mentor, Mr. Kurtz.
Chorus:
I wanna have one last lunch with Lenny,
He really knew how to dine!
I’m gonna miss him for as long as I live…
He was so generous, caring, and kind!
Verse 2:
Clothing is something we all need to have, and Poppo was no exception:
His ties and suspenders would all get a laugh,
Break the ice, and make a connection.
His boots alone were quite a few,
He wore them all, as far as I can tell…
Eventually he had to quit wearing shoes,
When his fingers were not working well.
(repeat chorus)
Verse 3:
Shelter was difficult at the end, but the big guy was hanging in there:
He had the help of a few loving friends,
With whom in the past he’d always shared.
He was just getting ready to move
Down to Dania Beach again:
Next door to Billy White (Billy White)…
Who had been so close to him.
(repeat chorus)
