FAREWELL:
© 1998 by Lydia Glider Shelley
I need extra hugs today
my best friend just passed away
and I’m going to miss him so
but I was sure to let him know
just how much he meant to me
so I declare respectfully:
Farewell my confidant
who knew me better than I know myself
farewell my devil’s advocate
who always saw the other side
farewell my richest friend
whose heart of gold was really all your wealth
farewell my shelter from the storm
to whom I could run and hide
from the rest of the world sometimes
Now you are no longer imprisoned by your body
I pray your soul is resting peacefully
for you deserve the best
in both this world and the next
and I’d make sure you had it
if it was up to me
